OST provides application-aware replication for both NetBackup and Backup Exec 2010. That capability leverages the DXi’s deduplication-powered replication to move data between sites, but it manages the process through policies set in NetBackup or Backup Exec. Management by the application also means updated catalogs and transparent access to the data wherever it resides. The direct-to-tape functionality available on NetBackup, adds an additional layer of functionality, moving data directly from DXi disk to tape, again with full control and tracking by the application. Together, the replication and tape support give users an end-to-end backup capability spanning multiple sites and storage technologies.
