Return Instructions for Certance and LTO Drives in America

Please follow the instructions described below to properly return a Certance and LTO drive in the United States and Americas regions. All returns require a Return Authorization (RA) number marked clearly on the outside of the box.

Remove and keep in your possession the magazine, all AC power cords, power adapters, external (USB, SCSI, etc.) data cables, mounting hardware or stands, SCSI terminators, SCSI host adapters, controller cards, DDS autoloader magazines, data or cleaning cartridges, driver diskettes, resource CD's, software or manuals. These items cannot be returned.

Ensuring customer confidentiality is a priority to Quantum. Whenever a tape cartridge is returned to an authorized Quantum repair site you are insured that the data on the tape cartridge will be immediately erased using Quantum’s processes and equipment. A second step is taken to physically destroy the cartridge within 24 hours of receipt. With these steps Quantum eliminates any possibility of any unauthorized party retrieving previously recorded data.

DRIVES and DRIVE ENCLOSURES

If the product is in a Quantum Tabletop  enclosure...

Verify there is a label with the Quantum logo affixed to the bottom of the drive enclosure. If a Quantum label exists, please return the product IN the enclosure.

If the drive is in a Quantum Rackmount unit....

The Rackmount unit with drive needs to be returned for replacement

If the product is NOT in a Quantum enclosure...

Remove the product from the enclosure. Ship the drive ONLY to Quantum for repair; do NOT ship the enclosure with the drive.

If a tape is stuck in the drive, Quantum RMA group will automatically send out a replacement tape.  The tape stuck in the drive will be removed by an authorized Quantum repair site and the data on the tape cartridge will be immediately erased using Quantum’s processes and equipment.  A second step is taken to physically destroy the cartridge within 24 hours of receipt.  With these steps Quantum eliminates any possibility of any unauthorized party retrieving previously recorded data..

Note: If the product received is missing components such as a bezel or an enclosure (if the drive was originally sold within a Quantum enclosure), the drive will be returned without repair processing.

HOW TO PACKAGE THE PRODUCT

If the product is in a Quantum enclosure...

Secure the product in several layers of bubble wrap AND packing foam at least 4 inches thick. If available, and in good condition, it's okay to reuse the packaging material that the advance-shipped replacement drive arrived in.

If the product is NOT in a Quantum enclosure...

Secure and ship in an ESD (anti-static) bag. If such a bag is not available, wrap the drive in at least two layers of aluminum foil. Then, secure the drive in several layers of bubble wrap AND packing foam at least 4 inches thick. If available, and in good condition, it's okay to reuse the packaging material that the advance-shipped replacement drive arrived in.

Caution: Do not use peanut or popcorn packaging material. Granulated packing material may cause damage and allow shifting inside the package. Your warranty will be voided if not packed according to these instructions.
